Cause of the Month
With a 95 year history of helping the homeless in Los Angeles' Skid Row district, Midnight Mission stands at the forefront of helping those suddenly struck by job loss, afflicted by alcohol and drug dependency, or any of the number of hurdles that push people towards homelessness.
Midnight Mission provides a safe place indoors for those of Los Angeles' Skid Row, but it is much more than just a shelter. Midnight Mission serves as a bridge to help people regain stable footing, independence and finally a return to self-sufficiency.
The Mission provides the immediate necessities of stability - food, shelter, clothing, hygiene, and medical care - then helps their charges return to self-sufficiency through an extensive level of support and counseling. They offer the 12-step approach to recovery for substance abuse, education, job training and placement. All this while providing a path to independent living through successive levels of ownership and responsibility of their personal space at the mission which moves them through cots to dormitory spaces to low cost apartments on the premiss. This gradual, step-by-step process moves their patrons from life on the street back to a position of self-sufficiency while supporting them every step of the way.
Midnight Mission is finding a increasing need for its services due to the economic downturn which is forcing a growing number of men and families to the street. And due to that same downturn, charitable donations are harder to come by than in years passed. The Midnight Mission is doing its part to help those that are often overlooked. Now it's our turn to provide support to the Midnight Mission.
What is AlmsWear
At the core, we create products that bring insightful design to everyday life. We strive to capture the concepts, movements, and activities that are driving change in the world.
These designs and products are created to inspire people, create a dialogue, or question a preconceived notion. Whether we reach one person or one thousand, our hope is to make the world a better place. That's it. Buy a new shirt or poster and help those in need.
What do we create?
Apparel, decor, and other products that focus on design. After all, we are fans ourselves. We follow our favorite designers and companies to see what they will come out with next. We intend to be a part of that community. To design, create and share.
What and why do we give?
We see the world a little differently. We come from a point of view that focuses on accountability and collaboration, especially in the corporate world. Maximizing profits and growth are great, but too many companies wait to have success before giving back. We believe small business can be an incredible source for good in the world while making a living. So, how do we give back? We donate 50% of profits from the sales of products to charity. Each month we select a charity partner that is making a difference locally, nationally or around the world and we create a set of products with a design that reflects the goals, attitudes and feeling of that charity. In addition to making a significant donation, we hope to bring them awareness in a time when their services are needed more than ever. We want to show that corporations aren't purely driven by the profit motive. We challenge you to make a difference as well.
